Here’s a fact you may not have known: The first Australian Observed Section Championships was held in 1967, in Tasmania, near the Lindisfarne golf course. Kurt Pickering found this digging through microfische at Devonport Library., check out the newspaper article here:

Tasmania held the Australian Titles again in 1985. Interestingly, in the following article, the writer points out the high cost of getting to Tasmania to compete, an issue we still face today. There’s a few names mentioned who are still very involved in the trials scene, and the writer even gives a tip or two on how to set sections.
